The Equinox uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder making 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. For 2027, the 8-speed is new on front-wheel-drive Equinox models — Chevy dropped the previous CVT entirely. That's worth knowing because the 2026 Honda CR-V LX and EX still use a CVT in their gas trims, and CR-V Hybrids use an eCVT setup. Drivers who dislike the elastic-feeling acceleration of a CVT will find the Equinox's stepped 8-speed more familiar and responsive in traffic and on highway on-ramps.
